WHICH CHARITIES?
by Todd Marshall

Trying to choose charities can be a daunting task.
However, giving to charities is something needed for
people around the world. Consider the tsunami that
recently devastated the world. Without the generous
giving of people, families and entire villages would not
have the opportunity to rebuild life. Charities come in
all sizes and cover all types of disasters. To give you
some ideas of the types of charities available, we have
provided some recommendations.

We can imagine that the niggling thought at the forefront
of your mind is will my money be put to good use and go to
the people that require it? Well that depends on the
charity or charities you choose. There are a few
unscrupulous ones where businessmen donate the money to
themselves, but fortunately these are few and far between.
Most are governed by empathetic people who have a burning
desire to help the less fortunate. Just take time to
choose charities and don~t hesitate to find out just how
much of each dollar goes to the cause, not to the charity.

Take World Vision International for example. This
non-profit organization is located in California and has
long been associated with Christian gift giving in helping
children around the world. Typically, the donations go
toward clothing, food, but also education. With this, the
children are being provided a means of working as adults
where they can be self-sufficient to perhaps one-day help
other people just as they were. World Vision
International also helps aid emergencies such as the
tsunami. Very reputable, you would not go wrong choosing
this charity.

How about the Red Cross then? Yet again this is a
fantastic charity. Everyone knows the name Red Cross and
the great work that they do. Red Cross volunteers can be
found all over the world aiding people in natural
tragedies such as tornadoes, flooding, hurricanes and
you~ve guessed it tsunami. They take foodstuff, clothes,
medicines, people, education and money to the areas
affected.

These are two of the best charities around but that
doesn~t mean that there aren~t a plethora of other
first-rate charities calling out for your $10 a month
donation. This includes Feed the Children, The Salvation
Army, The United Way, Greenpeace and Ronald McDonald
House. It~s up to you which one you choose; just don~t
forget to make donations as you never know where the next
disaster zone will be. It could be in your home town and
you could be the one desperately seeking the help of
charities.
